The outdoors are revealed in these Arizona hot spots. The Copper State has so much more to offer than its breathtaking views. Play golf, observe birds or mine for gold deep inside a copper mine.

Southeastern Arizona Bird Observatory has something to offer bird and nature lovers year round but April to September brings the most diverse birds. There are guided bird walks, tours and workshops at local bird hot spots. Cars and four-wheel vehicles are best for traveling to view the birds. Make sure all the car windows roll fully down for optimal viewing.

There are hundreds of golf courses in Arizona but the semi-private Starfire County Club in Scottsdale players wind around 27 holes with a view of the McDowell Mountains. Arnold Palmer himself designed part of the links adding bunkers and water hazards to challenge players. Tee time specials are available.

View Indian artifacts from different tribes at the Cave Creek Museum in Cave Creek. The small, community museum at the base of Black Mountain offers exhibits about mining, ranching and pioneers. The outdoor exhibits offer large ranch tools and a mill used to crush ore.

Copper Queen Mine Tours in Bisbee offers a tour of the largest and most complete mine in one of Arizona’s oldest copper mines. Visitors don there hard hats, head lamps and slickers and take a train ride deep inside the mine while retired miners narrate the tour. The mine has seven levels and 143 miles of passageways. The average temperature is about 47 degrees so dress accordingly. There are five tours scheduled daily and reservations are suggested.

Yuma River Tours in Yuma offers an unforgettable experience that’s only accessible from the river. There are jet boat tours, canoe and kayak trips and sternwheeler cruises. Custom and charter tours are also available. As you float down the river take in the view and listen to the history of the river from a tour guide. Guests can enjoy some bird watching and a stop at a mining cabin built in the 1800s. Reservations are highly suggested and for some tours required.
