Man Says He May Have Seen Karr In Boulder

A man says he may have seen JonBenet Ramsey slaying suspect John Mark Karr in Boulder in the early morning hours of Dec. 26, 1996 -- the day her body was found.

Daniel Pride of Portsmouth, N.H., said he was at the bus station about 12:30 a.m. when a man arrived, behaving strangely. He said the man was wearing a fleece vest with a "shiny red spot" that Pride took to be a stain.

The man didn't want to be noticed and pulled away when Pride asked if he had a light for a cigarette, Pride said.

"As I approach him his eyes start to widen and as I go you got a light? He goes 'oh no,'" said Pride. "It was a tremendous vibe and I said 'I guess I'll get my light elsewhere.'"

After they boarded the bus, they exchanged strange glances until the man got off the bus on the highway outside of Boulder.

Pride said he isn't 100 percent sure if the man he saw was indeed Karr. However, Pride says that man looked a lot like Karr and the man was acting odd, both at the bus stop and once on board the bus.

"From almost the very first of it, he started doing this (glances over his shoulder). He started looking back, you know these fearful glances over his shoulder. And when he'd see I was looking back at him, he would hide his face again," said Pride.

Karr's whereabouts at the time of JonBenet's slaying are unclear and Boulder County prosecutors have not disclosed any evidence they might have tying him to the crime scene. His family has insisted he was with his family in Alabama at the time.

On Good Morning America Friday, Karr's brother said he is sure John Karr has never missed a Christmas with his family.

"'In your heart, do you believe this is the killer of JonBenet Ramsey?', asks the reporter. I think it was him, yeah," said Pride. "This was not a man in control. Not cool and calculated. He was freaked to his socks."

Pride said he remembered calling in his tip to Boulder police after JonBenet's slaying. He said the stranger resembled Karr, and he contacted Boulder prosecutors earlier this month.

Pride said he was interviewed by telephone Wednesday by District Attorney investigator Mark Spray.

Pride provided the News with an e-mail from Spray in which the investigator wanted to know what Pride was wearing that night.

Spray and the DA's office did not immediately return calls seeking comment Saturday.
