Former Speaker of the House Andrew Romanoff will launch his bid Sen. Michael Bennet's seat in a Pueblo event Wednesday.

According to a campaign e-mail, Romanoff will make his announcement at the Lake Elizabeth pavilion at the Arkansas Riverwalk of Pueblo at 10 a.m.

He will also hold events in Colorado Springs and Denver that day.

Romanoff, a Denver Democrat, filed federal candidacy papers with the U.S. Senate on Thursday. Romanoff was speaker of the Colorado House, but term limits prevented him from running again when his term ended this year.

He was considered a likely pick for the U.S. Senate when then-Sen. Ken Salazar became interior secretary, but Gov. Bill Ritter instead chose Bennet, former Denver Public Schools superintendent.
