DENVER -- Debra Edwards treasures her right to vote, but she doesn't wasn't to vote twice. She doesn't want others to either.Edwards got married earlier this year, and for the second straight election she has received two ballots. One in her married name, the other in her maiden name."I want to know that the voting process is legitimate," she said.
Edward's case is a reminder that in spite of all the time and money put into improving the voter registration process, there are still problems. Jefferson County Clerk and Recorder Pam Anderson said there are more safeguards than most people realize. For the first time ever, Colorado has a nationwide voter registration database that allows Colorado's 64 counties to interact with each other. In addition, every ballot envelope has a bar code that is matched with the signature on the ballot and the signature on file in the office.Still, Anderson admits it's not perfect."Voter registration has a lot of safeguards, but it is also an honor system," Anderson said.Edwards was honorable enough to step forward and say one vote is enough.
