DENVER -- Election officials in many Colorado counties are predicting that there will be more people voting before Election Day then on Election Day itself. It is the new political reality that both election officials and campaign managers have to deal with.Political analyst Eric Sonderman told 7NEWS campaigns can no longer plan their strategy so it peaks on Election Day.
By then, he said, it may be too late.“You now have to reach a crescendo in early October and then hold that level for several weeks,” he said. The advantage is that voters can study the issues in their own home and avoid the long Election Day lines. The down side is that early voters can not change their minds due to late breaking issues or events.“Once you vote, that’s it,” said Boulder County Clerk and Recorder Hillary Hall. She estimates that 70,000 Boulder county voters will go to the polls on Election Day. More than 100,000 will mail in their ballots early and another 20,000 will go to an early voting location when those sites open on Oct. 20, Hall predicted.Nick Cucucaro was at the Boulder election office early Monday morning to drop off his ballot. He said he received it in the mail on Satruday, studied it on Sunday and then dropped it off. “I miss the camaraderie of standing in line and meeting neighbors,“ he said.Still, Cuccaro said he likes having the time to study the ballot.
