DENVER -- Amendment 48 is being called the personhood amendment and it is stirring up some heated debates.

Bob Enyart, with Colorado Right To Life, said, "Every little boy and girl has a beginning and their beginning is at the moment of fertilization."

While Crystal Clinkenbeard, who is with No on 48, said, "The amendment puts non-medical, non-scientific definition into our state constitution."

In the Colorado Blue Book, the Amendment reads, "It proposes a change to the state constitution that defines the term 'person' to include any human being from the moment of fertilization."

"Babies in the womb are people and we need to love them and protect them with law," Enyart said.

Supporters say it's common sense, but opponents to Amendment 48 say defining 'person' in Colorado's constitution would take away rights for those who are pro-choice.

"Defining a fertilized egg as a person would ban all abortions in Colorado, including for cases of rape, incest, or to save the life of a woman," said Clinkenbeard.

Supporters for Amendment 48 say every person should be protected by law. The fear from those who argue against Amendment 48 is that the new definition will create a legal nightmare.
