Palin, Obama To Campaign In Colorado Next Week

Colorado Is Battleground State In Presidential Race

POSTED: 7:23 am MDT September 12, 2008

You know Colorado is a battleground state in this year's election when both presidential and vice presidential candidates for the two major parties will be in the state on the same day.

Republican vice presidential nominee Gov. Sarah Palin will be holding a rally in Golden on Monday, the same day Sen. Barack Obama will be in Pueblo and Grand Junction. Obama has also scheduled an event in Denver on Tuesday.

Tickets For Pancake Breakfast Go Like Hotcakes

The McCain-Palin Campaign office released tickets for the "pancake breakfast," Friday but due to the overwhelming demand, the campaign ran out of tickets within eight hours.

In order to accommodate the demand, the campaign also decided to change the event from a pancake breakfast to a morning rally. The event will still be held at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds, but the venue has moved to the Westernaires Arena.

"Coloradans are excited about the McCain-Palin ticket," said McCain spokesman Tom Kise said Friday afternoon. "Our phones have been ringing off the hook and the line has been out the door and into the street. Unfortunately the campaign has no more tickets to give away."

The event begins at 9 a.m., but doors open at 7 a.m. The event is outside, so organizers said people should dress accordingly.

It is the Alaska governor's second visit to Colorado in just over a week.

Obama To Visit Fairgrounds In Pueblo

Obama will make a campaign stop at the Colorado State Fairgrounds in Pueblo on Monday afternoon. It will be his first return visit to the state since accepting the Democratic presidential nomination in Denver on Aug. 28.

The Obama campaign said his event is open to the public and no tickets are required, but RSVP is encouraged. Sign up through Obama's Web site or by calling 719-778-9976.

Doors open at 2 p.m. and the event begins at 4:30 p.m. For security reasons, people who want to go are told not to bring bags and to limit personal items. No signs or banners are allowed. Those parking on the fairgrounds should plan to enter at the West Main Gate off of Prairie Avenue but public transportation is encouraged.

He also plans a campaign appearance in Grand Junction on Monday, but details haven't been released.

His campaign also said he would stay a second day and will be in Denver on Tuesday but the location and time have not been announced.
