As many as 45 lawyers have volunteered to help defend protesters who might be arrested during next week's Democratic National Convention.

The People's Law Project held a final briefing session Thursday on the Colorado University campus in Boulder.

Brian Vicente, the project director, told 7NEWS that the lawyers are interested in defending people's free speech rights. He said, "They (lawyers) are coming out of the woodwork."

Many of the detainees could end up at a detention center in East Denver.

Denver city officials removed the razor wire from the top of the fencing and have promised that the facility will have air conditioning.

In addition, 100 people have volunteered to work as legal observers. They will wear bright green baseball caps and document what happens on the streets.

Vicente said the volunteers will work as neutral observers.
