DENVER -- A lot of rumors and questions are floating around about tickets for the Democratic National Convention and concerns that scammers trying to sell bogus tickets.Web sites like Craigslist and Ebay have posts advertising tickets for sale to the DNC. Some are legitimate, but others are not.One post on Craigslist advertised "tickets in hand," but Obama campaign officials said that the tickets haven't even been printed yet.
"Anybody telling you they have a community credential for Invesco Field doesn't know what they are talking about and doesn't have them," said Jenny Backus, senior advisor for the Obama campaign. The Democratic National Convention will be held for four days in Denver. Three will be at the Pepsi Center on Aug. 25, 26 and 27. Those dates are for delegates and the media only. "Because of limited capacity, we can only fit delegates and the 15,000 members of the media coming to cover that," said Backus. The public can attend Obama's acceptance speech at Invesco Field for free on Aug. 28. The application period has expired but there is a waiting list if attendees fail to show up.Some people we spoke with said they feel the application process for Invesco Field tickets was confusing.Tammy Mathias, who owns a business consulting firm in Denver, said she has been volunteering for the Obama campaign at Obama's Denver headquarters looking for tickets."There are no ways to get tickets right now," Mathias said. "I have tried everything."Officials with Obama's campaign said that tickets to the Invesco Field event will be given out this weekend. The tickets will have a bar code linking attendee with each ticket."We want to make sure your ticket is safe and secure and not being used fraudulently," said Backus. But Backus has a warning to anyone buying a ticket online."Most of the time people want to see a picture of the ticket online before they buy it. So we can see the bar code and deactivate them," she said.
