DENVER -- Didn't sign up Wednesday to get a ticket to see Barack Obama at Invesco Field at Mile High? You may be too late.More than 60,000 Coloradoans have already requested community credentials for the final night of the Democratic National Convention, so everyone who signs up now will be wait-listed, Obama's campaign said Thursday.Residents can request to be placed on the waitlist by signing up online at co.barackobama.com/invesco or by stopping by an Obama campaign office.
"We are getting an unbelievable response and it is first-come first served," said Stephanie Mueller, with Obama's Campaign for Change office in Colorado."This incredible response and excitement shows that there is a huge appetite for change in Colorado," said Anne Filipic, Obama's general election director. The Democratic National Committee said it has been flooded with calls and some people had a hard time getting through the hotline number ( 888-468-7404) to request tickets. However, officials say the phone system was never down.More than 76,000 seats are available for what is being billed as a "historic night." Obama is the first black man to accept the nomination for president for a major party. It's also the 45th anniversary of the Martin Luther King Jr. Speech. The speech is scheduled for Aug. 28, the fourth night of the DNC.The DNC promised that more than half of the seats at the stadium will go to residents of Colorado and two-thirds of the tickets will be available to the mountain west and southwest. On Aug. 15, individuals who signed up will be notified by e-mail, text or a phone call whether they received a ticket. Anyone not selected will be on the waiting list. The tickets will be distributed at the nine Democratic offices across Colorado.Volunteering is not required to receive tickets, and no background checks will be conducted on those applying, said Leah Daughtry, chief executive officer of the Democratic National Convention Committee.Offers for tickets are already up on eBay or other Internet sites that sell tickets.
