DENVER -- Colorado Rep. Tom Tancredo held a press conference Wednesday to discuss his immigration reform bill.Tancredo said amnesty advocates dared him to come up with a plan to deal with illegal immigration."Throughout the immigration debate, out-of-touch amnesty-only critics of enforcement have tried to hide behind their cry of 'where is your solution,'" Tancredo said. "Well this week we will show them and the president what immigration reform should look like and what the American people deserve."
Tancredo unveiled his plan Wednesday that cracks down on illegal immigrants and those who help them in the United States.Among other things, Tancredo's proposal would deny U.S. citizenship to children born in the U.S. if one of their parents is not in the country legally. The bill would prohibit illegal aliens from getting in-state tuition rates. It would only allow reimbursement for emergency medical facilities if hospitals report the citizenship information of the immigrants they treat.Tancredo said the government should use existing enforcement tools. The president of the Latin American Research and Service Agency in Colorado, Polly Baca, said taking away the birthright of babies born in the U.S. is unconstitutional.
