ARVADA, Colo. -- A group of local ministers are asking Coloradans to pray on Friday for immigration reform.Immigration is one of the most divisive issues in Colorado.Illegal immigration infuriates people who believe in the rule of law. The crackdown on illegal immigrants offends people who have watched families get wrenched apart, with their loved ones sent back to their home countries.
"I get phone calls from some families who don't want to go to a doctor's appointment, or drive to the grocery store because they're afraid to," said Pastor Arturo Vargas, president of Alianza Ministerial."Children are suffering, families are suffering, people are in prison," added Pastor Adan Aguirre of Faith Bible Chapel's Impacto De Fe."They are wrong if they don't have papers," Aguirre said, but he added that illegal immigrants' biggest crime is trying to better themselves."There is great tension and big concern over what's going on with the immigration problem," said attorney F. Lee Maes, "so we're hoping and praying that Congress, with its wisdom, will bring forth a solution to the problem."Alianza Ministerial is hosting a "Day of Prayer for Immigration Reform" at Faith Bible Chapel. They're expecting upward of 2,000 people at the event which begins at 6:30 p.m. Friday. The church is located at 64th Avenue and Ward Road in Arvada.
