Another Problem Reported With Denver's Absentee Ballots

Instructions Call For 63-Cent Postage, But 87 Cents Is Required

Denver election officials have yet another warning for voters, this time about another problem with their absentee ballots.

Instructions said voters need to use 63 cents in postage to return the ballot, but it really requires 87 cents.

However, the Denver Election Commission said all ballots will be accepted regardless of lack of postage. But it also recommends that voters mail their ballots using a public mailbox or drop them off in person to the commission's headquarters.

Voters can also drop absentee ballots at early voting locations during early voting or at a vote center on Election Day.

The same company that made this mistake, Sequoia, is also responsible for flipping the "yes" and "no" boxes on one of the referendums in the ballot. Sequoia is also the company that runs the voting machines Denver used in August and will use this November.

"If you mail in your ballot with the recommended postage, it will be delivered to the Denver Election Commission. If you vote early, I have been personally assured by Sequoia that the equipment will be operational and accurate, and if you vote on Election Day, I have the same assurance. Your vote will be counted," said Councilwoman Rosemary Rodriguez, a former county clerk.

Councilwoman Elbra Wedgeworth said voters should consider voting early.

"If you have not yet voted on the new Advantage equipment, I encourage you to vote at one of the early voting sites so that you do not feel rushed for time on Election Day. The council has worked with the Denver Election Commission to locate both the vote centers and early voting locations in convenient locations so that voters can easily access them. We want you to exercise your right to vote with confidence and relative ease," said Wedgeworth, who had also served as clerk and recorder for the city and county of Denver.
