PAM DAALE's JOURNAL

Pam Daale's Journal Published

POSTED: 10:27 am MST March 2, 2006

On Thursday, 7NEWS and the Denver affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Foundation unveiled "Mostly Sunny Partly Cloudy," a compilation of the online journal entries composed by late 7NEWS Meteorologist Pam Daale during her battle with breast cancer.

McGraw-Hill, parent company to Denver's 7 KMGH-TV, donated $25,000 to this project which aided in the design and publishing of the journal Pam wrote during her fight against breast cancer. All of the proceeds raised from the journal will be donated to the Denver affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Foundation to help fund breast cancer education, screening, treatment and treatment support programs in the area.

Pam had been a meteorologist for 7NEWS since May 1993. She was recognized as one of Denver's most reliable and knowledgeable forecasters, and was known to friends, coworkers and viewers as one of the most kind and compassionate people in the industry.

"Pam's courage, strength and faith was an inspiration to all of us," said news director Byron Grandy. "She was a true professional, committed to her craft; but more than that, she was a truly kind and caring human being. We are all better off for knowing her."

In the summer of 2002, Pam was diagnosed with breast cancer. She used her battle with cancer to help others, and her words have inspired thousands fighting the disease. Pam died from breast cancer in April 2004 but left behind a rich legacy, one of courage, faith and hope.

"Pam's journal is a testament to her faith, strength and courage while she battled breast cancer," explained Don Peitzman, Pam's husband. "Toward the end of her life, she was committed to telling women how to know their bodies, and how much she trusted God. I think she would be elated that her messages will live on and continue to touch the lives of women who might need words of encouragement."

"Words cannot express how grateful we are to Pam's family, McGraw-Hill and 7NEWS for making this project a reality. Pam's legacy of hope, courage and faith will live on through the people who read her journal, and through the women who will be assisted by funds raised from it," says Valerie Chilewski, executive director of the Denver affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

A minimum $13 donation is asked for each copy of "Mostly Sunny Partly Cloudy."

The Denver Metropolitan Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation was founded in 1994 to carry out the mission of the National Foundation on a local level. Since its inception, the Affiliate has directed more than $17.6 million to the fight against breast cancer. As a grant-making organization, the Affiliate does not provide funds directly to individuals. Instead, it distributes the funds raised through special events, and the generosity of individual and corporate donors, right back to the community through grants to not-for-profit organizations that serve the uninsured and underinsured.

Denver's 7, KMGH-TV is owned by the McGraw Hill Companies, which owns television stations in Bakersfield, Calif.; San Diego, Calif.; and Indianapolis, Ind., in addition to Denver.
