Sleep Under Wyoming Stars

Bargain Beds In Fabulous Settings

UPDATED: 11:48 am MDT September 3, 2009

From rustic cabins to a cowboy town hotel built by Buffalo Bill, Wyoming has plenty of memorable places to stay. The five suggestions below are full of character, but they won't bust your budget.

Roosevelt Lodge Cabins, Yellowstone National Park
These cabins have thin walls and thin mattresses, but the price is right and the location is hard to beat. The most Spartan accommodations are called "Rough Riders," and it's a short walk to the showers and bathrooms.

Colter Bay Village, Grand Teton National Park
For an inexpensive stay in the park, head to Colter Bay on the shores of Jackson Lake. Cozy wooden cabins in a variety of floor plans range in price from $49 to $179 a night. If you have sleeping bags, tent cabins featuring log walls and canvas roofs offer bunk beds and woodstoves for heating an even bigger bargain.

Spahn's Bighorn Mountain B&B, Big Horn
Guest can view 100 miles of prairie rolling to the eastern horizon from this four-story log mountain lodge. Rooms of varnished logs have country furnishings, including patchwork quilts and claw-foot tubs. Your stay comes with peace, quiet, wildlife viewing and a complete breakfast.

Irma Hotel, Cody
Built by Buffalo Bill in 1902 to cash in on visitors to Yellowstone National Park, today it offers an historic place to stay at very reasonable rates. The saloon features a huge cherry-wood bar that was given to Cody by Queen Victoria. Many of the rooms are renovated originals from the turn of the last century, but a new addition was added to the hotel in 1977.

Roundtop Mountain Motel, Thermopolis
This budget alternative to the big national chains offers log cabins or modern rooms at bargain rates. The recently remodeled cabins feature kitchenettes. All rooms offer air conditioning, cable TV and high-speed Internet.
