Colorado Avalanche (10-1-2) At San Jose Sharks (8-4-1), 10:30 P.M.
(Sports Network) - The Colorado Avalanche will try to extend the best start in franchise history tonight against the San Jose Sharks at HP Pavilion. The Avalanche are off to a 10-1-2 mark, setting a club record for most wins in October. Colorado has won four straight and eight of its last nine games after Wednesday's 3-2 victory in Calgary. The Avs fell behind by two goals in the first frame before David Koci and David Jones answered with goals in the period. Wojtek Wolski then scored the game-winner in the third period, making Craig Anderson's 30 saves stand up. "[Wednesday's] game, it could have been easy for our guys to say, you know what we'll get you next time. You find ways to win sometimes, even when it's not pretty and we did that [Wednesday]," Colorado head coach Joe Sacco said. "Craig [Anderson] came up big in the second and third period for us." Wolski netted his team-leading eight goal of the season and has lit the lamp four times in his last four games. Anderson, meanwhile, has set a club record by starting Colorado's first 13 games and has helped the Avalanche win the first two games of a four-game road trip. Colorado is 6-1-2 overall as the guest this year. Anderson made 38 saves in the Avalanche's 5-2 season-opening victory over the Sharks on October 1, getting his first-career win (1-3-0) over the club. Wolski scored twice in that contest for his first tallies against San Jose in 13 games. The Sharks, who swept their four-game set with the Avalanche last year, have still won six of eight overall in the series and four of the last five played in San Jose. Patrick Marleau scored a pair of goals in the loss to Colorado and had the lone regulation goal in Wednesday's 2-1 shootout victory over Los Angeles. Marleau has 10 goals on the season and five goals and six assists over a six- game point streak. Ryane Clowe had the shootout winner in the sixth round and Evgeni Nabokov made 28 saves in San Jose's third straight win. The Sharks were playing at home for the first time since a 4-2-0 six-game road trip. "We were coming off the long road trip and I think we came off a little bit flat," admitted Nabokov. "Then we found our legs and things were going really well for us." Nabokov gave up all five goals on 20 shots versus the Avs earlier this season and is 11-13-1 with a tie and 2.63 goals-against average versus them lifetime. Both Devin Setoguchi and Ryan Vesce missed a second straight game for the Sharks due to leg injuries and are considered day-to-day.
