Denver, CO -- (Sports Network) - The Colorado Avalanche signed free agent forward David Koci to a one-year contract on Wednesday.

Financial terms were not disclosed, but TSN Canada states the value is $575,000.

"David is a fierce competitor who will add grit and toughness to our lineup," said team general manager Greg Sherman.

The 28-year-old Koci appeared in 37 games for the Lightning and Blues last season, registering two points and 141 penalty minutes.

Koci was originally the 146th overall pick by Pittsburgh in the 2000 NHL Draft and has two points and 297 penalty minutes in 64 career games.
