NFL Preseason Preview - Arizona (0-1) At Kansas City (1-0)

By Tony Moss, NFL Editor -- (Sports Network) - Larry Johnson will make his long-awaited return to the Arrowhead Stadium pitch on Saturday night, when the Chiefs All-Pro running back and his team host the Arizona Cardinals in the second preseason matchup for each team. It was last Nov. 4th that Johnson suffered a broken foot in a home loss to the Green Bay Packers, an injury that helped send Kansas City's season spiraling out of control. The Chiefs, who were 4-3 before falling to the Packers, would not win again in 2007. In addition to tying a dubious team record with nine consecutive losses in a season, the Chiefs' 4-12 record was the organization's worst since 1978. Now healthy, the former Penn State star and first-round Draft pick Johnson rushed eight times for 18 yards, including a five-yard touchdown run, in Kansas City's 24-20 win at the Bears last Thursday night. Also looking to take a step forward on Saturday will be Chiefs starting QB Brodie Croyle, who was 6-of-10 passing for 82 yards versus the Bears. Croyle will be followed in the lineup by Tyler Thigpen (8-of-16, 113 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT) and veteran Damon Huard (6-of-8, 77 yards, 1 TD), who are vying for backup duties behind Huard. On the injury front for Kansas City, the team's two first-round picks - tackle Branden Albert (foot) and defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey (knee) - are both unlikely to be available against the Cardinals. While the Chiefs try to build on last week's success, Arizona will come into Arrowhead trying to erase its current preseason losing skid. The Cardinals' losing streak in warm-ups swelled to six in last Thursday's 24-10 loss to the Saints, though Ken Whisenhunt's squad did take plenty of positive signs from the game. Matt Leinart, who in his third year is looking to fully establish himself ast the starting QB, was a crisp 7-of-8 for 91 yards in the defeat. Backup Kurt Warner did not appear in the contest, but is expected to see his first action of the 2008 preseason against Kansas City. Also slated to see some time for the Arizona offense is wide receiver Anquan Boldin, who was nursing a hamstring problem last week but has returned to the practice field. Cornerback Antrel Rolle (ankle) and rookie wideout Early Doucet (hamstring) are among the Cardinals notables who are unlikely to appear on Saturday. The Chiefs have a 13-9-1 lead in their all-time preseason series with the Cardinals, though they dropped a 24-17 home decision in the last such matchup, prior to the 2005 season.
