POSTED: 10:26 am MDT September 1, 2008

(Sports Network) - The New England Patriots signed veteran cornerback Deltha O'Neal Monday one day after releasing safety John Lynch.

Terms of the agreement were not released.

O'Neal, 31, is a two-time Pro Bowl selection in his ninth NFL season, having played in 116 games with 75 starts for the Denver Broncos and Cincinnati Bengals. The 5-foot-11, 194-pounder has recorded 358 career tackles and 31 interceptions while also contributing in the return game with 1,274 yards and a touchdown on kickoff returns and 1,368 yards and two touchdowns on punt returns.

Last season with Cincinnati, O'Neal played in 16 games with eight starts and totaled 56 tackles and one interception. Originally drafted by the Broncos in the first round (15th overall) of the 2000 NFL Draft out of California- Berkeley, O'Neal was traded to the Bengals on April 9, 2004 along with a first-round and fourth-round pick in the 2004 draft in exchange for the 17th overall selection that year. He was released by the Bengals on August 30, 2008.

In other moves, the Patriots claimed tight end Jason Pociask off waivers from the New York Jets and offensive tackle Mark LeVoir off waivers from the St. Louis Rams, signed offensive lineman Jacob Bender and tight end Tyson DeVree to the practice squad and released tight end Stephen Spach.
