Green Bay, WI -- (Sports Network) - Running backs Noah Herron and Vernand Morency were among the notables released by the Green Bay Packers on Saturday, as Mike McCarthy's club reached the NFL-mandated 53-man maximum.Herron played parts of two seasons in a Green Bay uniform, rushing for 271 yards and scoring five touchdowns as a member of the team in 2005-06. But the Northwestern product missed all of 2007 due to a knee injury, and was passed on the depth chart by Ryan Grant and Brandon Jackson while sidelined. Morency was the odds-on favorite to win starting running back duties heading into 2007, but his failure to stay healthy made the ex-Texan's tenure with the team shorter than might have been expected. Knee and rib injuries limited Morency to 29 carries last season, and the emergence of Grant didn't help his case either. Also released by the Pack on Saturday were wide receiver Jake Allen, cornerback Scorpio Babers, defensive tackle Conrad Bolston, center Brennen Carvalho, safety Tyrone Culver, linebacker Spencer Havner, tight end Joey Haynos, guard Ryan Keenan, linebacker Danny Lansanah, defensive tackle Alfred Malone, defensive tackle Daniel Muir, cornerback Joe Porter, wide receiver Johnny Quinn, wide receiver Taj Smith, wide receiver Brett Swain, tackle Orrin Thompson and fullback Corey White. Notables in that group include Culver, who played in 14 games with the team in 2006 before missing all of last year due to injury; Muir, who appeared in three games with the Packers last year, and Swain, a seventh-round Draft choice in 2008. In other moves, defensive tackle Rodney Allen, center Junius Coston, and long snapper J.J. Jansen were all placed on season-ending injured reserve. The Packers open their season on Sept. 8th, when they welcome the Minnesota Vikings to Lambeau Field for a primetime matchup.
