Stafford Highlights NFC Weekly Winners

New York, NY -- (Sports Network) - Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford, New York Giants linebacker Michael Boley and New Orleans Saints punter Thomas Morstead have been named the NFC's top players for Week 11 of the NFL season.Stafford threw for 422 yards and five touchdowns in Detroit's 38-37 win over Cleveland to earn the offensive award. His passing yards were the most ever by a rookie and he became the youngest quarterback to throw five TD passes in one game. The first overall pick of the 2009 draft threw for the winning score on the final play of the game, doing so with an injured non-throwing shoulder, and became the first Lion to win the offensive weekly award since Joey Harrington in Week 1 of the 2003 season. Boley notched a team-high 13 tackles, including 11 solo, with one sack in New York's 34-31 overtime win against Atlanta to pick up the defensive award. The former Falcon, who signed as a free agent with New York this past offseason, became the second Giant honored this season, joining Justin Tuck from Week 1. Morstead averaged 48.8 yards on four punts with a 46.0 net average in New Orleans' 38-7 win over Tampa Bay to garner the special teams award. One of his punts was downed at the one-yard line and another was downed at the five. He also handled kickoff duties and had three touchbacks. Others considered for the offensive award included Minnesota quarterback Brett Favre, who completed a career-high 88 percent of his passes (22-of-25) for 213 yards with four touchdowns in a victory over Seattle; Arizona running back Tim Hightower, who ran for a career-high 110 yards and averaged 7.9 yards per carry in a 21-13 win at St. Louis; and Giants quarterback Eli Manning, who threw for a career-high 384 yards with three touchdowns against the Falcons. Defensive nominees included St. Louis rookie linebacker James Laurinaitis, who had a game-high 16 tackles in the loss to the Cardinals; while special teams consideration went to Green Bay kicker Mason Crosby, who connected on three field goal tries and had a pair of touchbacks on kickoffs in a 30-24 win over San Francisco.
