Miami, FL -- (Sports Network) - Brett Favre threw a pair of touchdown passes in his regular-season debut for the Jets, and Darrelle Revis intercepted former New York quarterback Chad Pennington in the end zone with five seconds remaining to give the Jets a dramatic 20-14 victory over the Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins pulled within 20-14 with 3:27 remaining when Pennington found David Martin in the end zone with an 11-yard pass, capping an eight-play, 53- yard drive. New York was unable to pick up a first down as Miami used its timeouts to get the ball back. The Dolphins took over on their own 39 with 1:43 to play and Pennington marched the offense to the New York 18 with less than 30 seconds left. He went to the end zone on first down and was almost intercepted, then threw incomplete on second down with 13 seconds remaining before a third-down heave under pressure toward Ted Ginn Jr. in the back of the end zone was picked off by Revis. Pennington, who led the Jets to the playoffs three times during his eight-year tenure, was the odd-man out when Favre was acquired by New York from Green Bay following his short-lived retirement. In his debut with Miami, Pennington completed 26-of-43 passes for 251 yards with a pair of scores and the interception. "It was a typical Dolphin-Jet game, came down to the end like it normally does and we were one play away," said Pennington. Favre, in his first action with a team other than Green Bay since playing two games with Atlanta in 1991, connected on 15-of-22 throws for 194 yards and was not intercepted. Thomas Jones ran for 101 yards on 22 carries with a score for the Jets (1-0), who have won five in a row against Miami. New York was just 4-12 last season. "That's what it's all about -- to walk off that field with a win," said Favre. Ricky Williams led the Miami ground game with just 24 yards on 10 carries, while Ronnie Brown chipped in 23 yards on six attempts. Williams also had four catches, while Brown notched three. Tight end Anthony Fasano was Pennington's favorite receiver with eight catches for 84 yards and a touchdown. Miami (0-1), coming off a disastrous 1-15 season, played its first game under new head coach Tony Sparano. The Jets picked up one first down on their initial series, then needed just one play to score on their second possession, as Favre beautifully sold a play-fake and found Jerricho Cotchery behind the Miami defense for a 56-yard score. Miami failed to register a first down until its third series when Brown carried the ball for the first time since his 2007 season ended with a knee injury last October. He ran for seven yards on 2nd-and-4, but the Dolphins wound up punting it away and a nine-yard shank by Brandon Fields gave the Jets great field position at their own 46. Favre drove New York into field goal range, but Mike Nugent missed badly on a 32-yard attempt. He hurt a thigh muscle on an earlier kickoff and the injury figured prominently into the next Jets possession. First, though, the Dolphins marched 78 yards on 11 plays for the tying score early in the second quarter. Pennington hit Greg Camarillo for 17 yards to convert 3rd-and-2 and added a 24-yard strike to Martin to set up a first down at the New York six-yard line. After a one-yard run by Williams and an incomplete pass, Pennington hit Fasano in the end zone for a five-yard touchdown. The ensuing kickoff went out of bounds and gave the Jets a short field at their own 40-yard line. Jones quickly broke off a 13-yard run on the first play and New York converted a pair of short third downs before facing 4th- and-13 from the Miami 22. With Nugent unavailable, the Jets decided to go for the first down and Favre, under pressure, threw up a prayer that was answered at the goal line when Chansi Stuckey made the grab for a touchdown. Without Nugent, the Jets opted for a two-point conversion and Favre's pass fell incomplete to leave New York ahead 13-7 with 6:52 to play in the first half. Neither team managed a first down for the remainder of the half, but the Jets came out with a sustained drive to start the third quarter. They reached the Miami 24, but Favre had the ball knocked out of his hand for a fumble and the Dolphins recovered on their own 11-yard line. The Jets got the ball back after a Miami punt and drove 69 yards for a score. A 13-yard connection to Cotchery on 3rd-and-4 kept the march alive and a 24- yard pass interference penalty against Andre Goodman put the Jets into Miami territory. Favre hit Stuckey for 15 yards on 3rd-and-5 to set up a first down at the 11-yard line and Jones did the rest with a five-yard run and a six-yard scoring jaunt. Nugent returned and kicked the extra point for a 20-7 lead with 1:08 remaining in the third quarter. The Dolphins followed with a drive inside the New York five-yard line, but Pennington had passes on third and fourth down deflected by rookie defensive back Dwight Lowery in the end zone with just over nine minutes to play. "It was a little more exciting than I would probably like it to be, but most Jets-Dolphins games come down to situations like that," said Jets head coach Eric Mangini.Game Notes:The Dolphins managed just 49 yards rushing...Favre earned his 161st NFL victory and now has 444 career touchdown passes...Miami left tackle Jake Long, the first pick of the 2008 NFL Draft, made his first start and was flagged twice -- once for holding and once for tripping.
