GREELEY, Colo. -- A 15-year-old girl died and two other teens were injured when the car they were in was broadsided by a school bus in north Greeley Tuesday morning.According to investigators, Karla Mendoza-Gonzalez was riding in the back seat of a car driven by her 16-year-old brother, Francisco Mendoza-Gonzalez. Karla was killed, and Francisco was severely injured. Nehimiah Pizarro, 14, a front-seat passenger, also was injured in the crash."It appears that the driver of a car pulled out from a stop sign into the path of the school bus," said police spokesman Sgt. Joe Tymkowych.
It happened in the 3900 block of F Street at about 7:15 a.m., police said. All three teens in the car were students at nearby Northridge High School. Counselors were on hand at Northridge to help classmates deal with the tragedy.Investigators said that the windows on the Chrysler Cirrus were frosted over when they arrived and they are looking at that as a possible contributing cause to the crash. One student on the school bus received minor injuries in the crash. The bus, from Eaton School District, was carrying 12 students at the time of the crash. The initial report was that several students were transported to the hospital but Greeley police said later that no students were transported and that the teens who were transported were from the car. Some parents of students on the bus arrived at the crash site and took their children to the hospital as a precaution.Police are investigating the crash and no charges have been filed.
