A Colorado bride-to-be is celebrating her upcoming wedding and a $1 million Powerball prize.

Cheryl Johnson moved from Nebraska to Thornton in February after getting engaged. She and her future husband buy Powerball tickets for every drawing, but until now the largest prize Johnson had won was $100.

Her fiancé called her from work to tell her she won. “He told me this morning: ‘We were rich, but now we have money too,’” Johnson told Powerball officials. Johnson matched five numbers in the Sept. 19 drawing and chose the Power Play option for an extra $1, earning her a $1 million prize.

Johnson plans to pay off bills, buy a new Jeep and spend the money on family. She and her fiancé have seven children and eight grandchildren between them.

Johnson purchased her ticket at Smart Stop on Marshall Street in Arvada. The store will receive $3,000 for selling the $1 million winning ticket.
