EAGLE COUNTY, Colo. -- Human remains thought to be one of the victims of a suspected serial killer have been found in a remote area Eagle County.Searchers found remains Monday believed to be those of Terry Kimball, the uncle of suspected serial killer Scott Lee Kimball, according to sources involved in the investigation.Officials must wait for DNA testing to positively confirm the remains are Terry Kimball's, but family members told 7NEWS that law enforcement officials have told them the remains belong to Terry Kimball.
"They've been ready to look for some time but there was a problem with the snow in the area. They had to wait for the snow to melt to where they could actually go out and look," said Kimball family spokesman Ed Coet. The remains were located in a backcountry area of Vail Pass on Monday. The FBI confirms that the search was part of an FBI investigation into Scott Lee Kimball but did not confirm the remains were Kimball's uncle.Family members told 7NEWS that Scott Kimball helped the FBI find the missing remains, as he had with the remains of two other missing women."It's a good thing, you know, to be able to bring closure," Coet said.Terry Kimball was last seen with Scott Kimball in September 2004, when they shared a home.Scott Kimball, 42, told Terry Kimball's wife that Terry won the Ohio State Lottery and moved to Mexico with a dancer.Used as an FBI informant in 2002, Kimball was close to four Colorado people who all disappeared between January 2003 and September 2004: Kaysi McLeod, Leann Emry, Jennifer Marcum and Terry Kimball.Emry's remains were found in a remote canyon in southeastern Utah in March and McLeod's remains were recovered in a remote area of Jackson County, Colorado. The remains of Jennifer Marcum have not been found. Earlier this spring, Kimball was brought back out to the same area of western Utah where Emry was found in order to search for Marcum. The search was not successful."Oh, he was trying to be cooperative but I don't think he was giving anybody any real locations..just a general area," said Grand County James Nyland.Kimball has not been charged in any of the disappearances or deaths, but the FBI said he was the last person to see each of them. But while federal prosecutors have yet to build a case linking Kimball to the disappearances, he has been convicted of being a felon with a firearm. He was sentenced to six years in that case.He is already serving 48 years on theft and forgery convictions in Boulder County.
