An American flag hanging upside down outside a Broomfield home is stirring talk among the town.

An upside-down flag is tradionally a signal of distress, but it is the neighbors who are distressed. Some who have e-mailed 7NEWS claim that Mark Nelson is being un-American.

Nelson said the flag represents his frustration with the current state of our country. He wants people to take action.

"People shouldn't turn their heads the other way. They need to focus on what's going on in America and stand up and do something about it," Nelson said. "Our country is upside down, just like the flag is. There's so many problems in our government. It's not that I'm not patriotic or not American. I've served. I've got kids that have served. I have kids that are going into the military. I'm just making a stand for what the government has down for the last eight years."

He said reaction to his upside down flag has been mixed but he believes there are many who want to see a change in the country.

"I've had a lot of people wave and give us the thumbs up, and then there's the opposite," Nelson said.
