BOULDER, Colo. -- A man accused of posing as a police officer to get free porn missed a court date.Andrew Libby, 33, of Longmont, was due for a preliminary hearing Tuesday. He is suspected of posing as a police detective and telling an adult novelty shop to give him free X-rated videos so he could check for underage performers.Investigators said they believe Libby is the man who made three unsuccessful attempts to get free porn DVDs from the store, showing a badge and leaving a business card from the Longmont police "age verification unit." Police say there is no such unit.
Clerks never gave him any DVDs.The business card he handed over didn't have anyone's name on it but the store gave officers surveillance video of the man, who made those claims on July 18, July 19 and July 26.Longmont police Cmdr. Tim Lewis said earlier that officers searching the home Libby shared with his mother and son found a metal security badge with the words "private security" on it. Public defender Kristi Sanders said the last she heard was that her client was being evaluated at a mental health facility but that he might have been taken to the Colorado Mental Health Institute in Pueblo. Prosecutors weren't sure of Libby's whereabouts either. A judge ordered the parties to appear in court again Thursday.
