McCain Colo. Headquarters Rocking Despite Party In Minnesota

    Supporters Pleased With Palin Pick

The energy at John McCain's Colo. campaign headquarters was palpable.

There was a steady stream of new volunteers eager to lend their help to the Republicans. The energy seems to be the result of the vice presidential pick, Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska.

"Once (McCain) announced that Palin was running I had to come down and get a yard sign. Next thing I know, I am signing up to volunteer and here I am this morning," said volunteer Laura Rohling.

Rohling said she is a huge fan of Palin and McCain. She said she is anxious to see Palin speak at the McCain/Palin rally in Colorado Springs.

"We're very excited. I am going to have all my kids with me. They are going to be wearing 'Preschoolers for McCain' shirts," said Rohling.

Debra Pelkowski said she was once a Hillary Clinton supporter but said the Democrats lost her vote and the Republicans won it when Clinton was passed and Palin was picked.

"I think she's a great candidate. I am excited. She's done a lot of hard work and she's energetic and energizes the party," said Pelkowski.

Other people said they liked Palin's focus on family and her hard-working spirit.

Steve and Lisa Kane said they are not a traditional family but a blended one. The Kanes have adopted children from China and both have stepchildren.

They said they are Republicans but care about this election more than the previous ones because they identify with Palin.

The said the entire family will travel to hear Palin speak on Saturday even if it takes two cars.
