A 48-year-old Erie woman has been arrested in a double stabbing that left one man dead and another in critical condition, authorities said.
Karen Cordova was arrested Tuesday on charges of second-degree homicide and attempted second degree-homicide, said Weld County Undersheriff Margie Martinez. She was being held in the Weld County Jail without bond.
The complex investigation began early Saturday when Erie police learned that 34-year-old Stephen Erikson had staggered into his Erie home with stab wounds. A roommate called 911, a family member said.
Erikson was taken by ambulance to Lafayette Samaritan Hospital where he remained in critical condition Tuesday, Martinez said.
Further investigation led Erie police and sheriff's investigators to the Monday discovery of a man's body outside Cordova's home on County Road 1, between County Roads 12 and 14, outside Erie, Martinez said. It appeared the man had been stabbed to death, she said.
Martinez said the coroner is still working to confirm the identity of the slain man and the investigation is ongoing. An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday.
The Sheriff's Office has taken over the investigation, because the stabbing happened in the county's jurisdiction.
