DENVER – We all want to help in times of crisis, it’s human nature after all. So how can you help firefighters in Colorado as they fight several different wildfires burning across the state?
The Rocky Mountain Incident Management Team on Saturday released a list of suggestions to answer that question. Here’s what they suggested:
Appreciation goes a long way
“Thank you” notes and banners are most appreciated by firefighters, according to the Rocky Mountain Incident Management Team.
The messages don’t have to flashy or intricate – it’s the thought that counts.

Firefighters also appreciate donations to the Wildland Firefighter Foundation. You can donate to the foundation by clicking here.
What firefighters can’t accept from the public
Food items. Strange, right? But that’s due to health and federal contract regulations.
However, local food bank donations help and you can always donate to the Red Cross.
Other suggestions if you want to help
- Join or support your local volunteer fire department of emergency organizations.
- Donate to local charitable organizations like the Red Cross.
- Give first responders and yourself a safe area to retreat to or to defend your home by creating defensible space around your home.
