WALSENBURG, Colo. - The 13,521 acre East Peak Fire burning southwest of Walsenburg in Huerfano County is now being called 85 percent contained.
The fire's behavior is currently described as "smoldering" and the potential for additional growth is considered to be "low."
Firefighters say they've completed a handline through the wilderness and expect to be able to call the fire fully contained on July 3. In the meantime, they'll be working on mop up operations and patrolling their containment lines.
Twelve homes were lost in this fire.
