LA VETA, Colo. - The Klikus fire burning west of La Veta in Huerfano County is now called 100 percent contained. Additionally, the size of the fire is revised downward from earlier estimates to a new total of 42 acres.
According to Facebook posts from Huerfano Emergency Dispatch, the fire is burning about four miles west of La Veta. 200 evacuation orders were issued to phone numbers registered in the area northeast of the fire.
A shelter for evacuees was established Tuesday at the Huerfano Community Center in Walsenburg, but was closed because no evacuees used the facility.
The fire spread through forest containing Ponderosa Pine and Pinon Juniper.
Tuesday, the Governor signed an executive order allocating $150,000 from the Disaster Emergency Fund for the Klikus Fire. The money is earmarked to pay for the fire suppression, response and recovery efforts.
