FREMONT COUNTY -- Evacuation orders are being lifted for people living near the Hayden Pass Fire in Fremont County.

Evacuees from Fox Creek Dr, County Road 40, Mosher Creek, County Rd 1A and the Eagle Peak Subdivision were allowed to return home starting at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.

Evacuees have to register before being allowed to return home. Registration may be completed at the Cotopaxi High School until noon Tuesday, or the Howard Fire Department after noon.

The only area still under mandatory evacuation orders is County Road 6. However, officials announced Tuesday that County Road 6 residents will be allowed to go back home Thursday at 8 a.m.

The Hayden Pass Fire has burned 16,414 acres. It is 35 percent contained. Officials say full containment could take until October 1 because the fire is burning in beetle kill and rugged terrain.

The fire is burning 20 miles southeast of Salida, near Coaldale. It started July 8.
