LITTLETON, Colo. -- Firefighters say a grass fire in Littleton burned half an acre to an acre Tuesday.
The fire burned in the open space area between Roxborough Park Road and Rampart Lane, and Ramona Avenue and Wagonwheel Drive. That's on the south side of Chatfield State Park, near the Highline Canal.
"It moved through the back field behind me, really fast," said neighbor Luanna Clever.
Clever said she first noticed the fire when her power went out.
"I ran outside and got my mare because I didn't want her back there," Clever said.
South Metro Fire public information officer, Eric Hurst said they suspected a blown transponder sparked the tall grass, but it was the wind that was the real challenge for firefighters.
"We had those outflow winds so the fire was being blown in multiple directions," Hurst said.
Some neighbors like Troy Loftus, who was house-sitting at the time, took matters into their own homes and grabbed a hose.
"This was the line that I actually got it to stop at," Loftus said pointing to charred grass just feet away from a garage.
While the fire burned close to some structures, no structures were lost, according to South Metro Fire Rescue.
