East Tschuddi and Citadel fires are 70 percent contained

MEEKER, Colo. - Two lightning-sparked fires in the northwest corner of the state are 70 percent contained.

-- East Tschuddi Fire:

This fire is located 20 miles northwest of Meeker and began on Saturday afternoon. The size of the fire is 627 acres. The crews plan to continue mopping up around the perimeter of the fire.

-- Citadel Fire:

This 2,009 acre fire is 40 miles northwest of Meeker and began on Sunday. The crews are working to hold containment lines around the perimeter of the fire.

While there was no growth in the fires today, there are heavy fuel concentrations and heat in the northeast region. The terrain makes it difficult and dangerous for firefighters to directly combat the fires.
