Fire Burning In Blue Mountain Estates Neighborhood

A wildfire is burning near homes in Jefferson County, west of Highway 93 and south of Highway 72.The fire is burning in the Blue Mountain Estates neighborhood, which is near Coal Creek Canyon, about a mile away from Boulder County.There are about 110 houses to the east of the fire but several houses are mixed into the rugged terrain where the fire is burning. However, no evacuations have been ordered.The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Jacki Kelley says three to four acres have now burned. There are 30 firefighters will stay on the scene overnight. Two aerial drops earlier in the night seem to be helping significantly. The area is very dry, it is very hot, and there is some wind, authorities said.Firefighters with the Coal Creek Fire Department are fighting the blaze with Arvada police and Jefferson County Sheriff's Office assisting.Residents living at Blue Mountain Estates say the fire threat is a part of life in their community. Many homeowners keep their grass trimmed and trees are kept out of the way of homes because the risk in constant."Luckily it's the beginning of the season so nothing has grown real full yet," said one woman who lives on the base of the mountain."If it's going to happen, it's going to happen. And then we'll tend to it," said Jim Wagner, an area resident.
