GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. -- A Grand Junction woman has been charged with murder in the death of her girlfriend's 3-year-old niece.

TheDaily Sentinel reports that 32-year-old Rebekah Wallin was charged Tuesday in the death of Bethannie Johnson, who died in March from multiple blunt-force injuries.

Wallin's girlfriend, Shanna Gossett, is also facing charges in the case.

Wallin had been arrested last month after Gossett told authorities she threw the child against a shelving unit and a wall inside her home. She says the child stopped breathing, but police weren't notified until two days later.

Gossett's story had changed from her March arrest when she told police Wallin hadn't known the child was inside the residence.

Wallin's attorney, Stephan Schweissing, says his client is choosing to waive the right to a preliminary hearing.
