CLEVELAND - When the woman who drove on a sidewalk to avoid a school bus stood on a sidewalk holding an "idiot" sign for the second day of her sentence Wednesday, a supporter joined her.
Shena Hardin lost her license for 30 days, was ordered to pay $250 in court costs and ordered to stand at an intersection for two days with a sign about her crime.
Hardin was there Tuesday, but she spent the hour texting, wearing headphones and smoking as she held the court-ordered sign that read “Only an idiot would drive on the sidewalk to avoid a school bus."
The sentencing judge, unhappy that Hardin was smoking and texting during Tuesday's hour, had planned to personally supervise the defendant Wednesday. But Judge Pinkey Carr sent word that she had changed her mind. Court spokesman Ed Ferenc said Carr gave no reason.
However, another person was with Hardin on Wednesday.
A man who called himself a "supporter" stood next to her on the corner wearing his own sign.
"If she's an idiot, so am I," the sign read.
