INDIANAPOLIS - Remember the Cheerios ad featuring an interracial couple that sparked controversy recently because of hateful comments left about the commercial on YouTube?
A Kids React video also posted on YouTube illustrated the controversy was much ado about nothing, at least in the eyes of children.
Kids React is an online series dating back several years in which children are shown viral videos and asked to give an unfiltered impression of them.
A disclaimer before the video warns, "This episode of Kids React will discuss the sensitive subject of racism and its impact on individuals, families and the world at large."
"The opinions of children about these issues can give incredibly valuable insight into where our society really is and where we are headed as people," the disclaimer said.
In the commercial, a biracial child asks her white mother whether Cheerios are good for the heart before it cuts to a shot of the child's black father waking up from a nap with Cheerios spread all over his chest.
All the children were befuddled when told that the commercial angered a lot of people.
"They seem like a normal family," said one girl.
When told the anger stemmed from the commercial featuring a mixed race family, the children said they didn't understand.
"I don't think it's fair," one girl said.
"I don't get it," one boy said.
"That's so stupid," another girl said.
"Some people just fall in love like that," another girl said.
"It's just the color of their skin. What matters is if they're nice or mean," one of the children said.
