It's time to celebrate the gag-gift of the cake world. That's right, December is national fruitcake month ... a whole 31 days dedicated to the admiration of the nut and candied fruit culinary concoction. The first known recipe included pomegranate seeds, raisins and pine nuts. You can or credit the ancient Romans for the invention of the fruitcake. The first fruitcakes were soaked in brandy to preserve them and prevent mold. Today however, most mass-produced fruitcakes don't come with alcohol.
