MELBOURNE, Australia - Papa Smurf wouldn't approve.

Four men all dressed up as Smurfs were arrested in connection to an assault at an Australia convenience store on Dec 16.

Police said the men, painted blue like the fictional cartoon characters, assaulted a 37-year-old man at a Melbourne convenience store. This was after he refused to light a cigarette that he was going to give to one of the "Smurfs," according to The Age.

Police called for the men to come forward for questioning seeking vital information on the assault.

The four "Smurfs," all between the ages of 18 and 19, turned themselves into officers on Tuesday.

Police told The Age that the men were interviewed and released but they are expected to be charged on summons with assault-related offenses.

The Smurfs were a popular cartoon in the 1980s.
