SUV in Cody Wyoming child abduction sought; FBI reports cargo box was recovered

11-year-old lured into 4-Runner

CODY, Wyo. - Law enforcement has recovered the cargo box that was once atop the SUV linked to a child abduction in Wyoming.

The FBI and police in Wyoming have asked for the public's help in locating a 2004 or 2005, white, four-door Toyota SR-5, 4-Runner in connection with the abduction of a girl in Cody, Wyoming on Tuesday.

The 11-year-old victim got into the truck with the man after he said he was looking for a lost puppy.  She was later found walking down a rural road.

On Oct. 8, the vehicle had a silver over black Thule cargo box on the roof, FBI spokesman Dave Joly said.

Investigators said the vehicle was photographed by various surveillance cameras in Cody.

The FBI announced Friday that the SUV no longer has the cargo box on top. Joly said law enforcement had recovered the box and it is being processed as evidence.

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 55 to 60 years of age, 6-feet tall, weighing 185 to 200 lbs., with short strawberry-blonde or white hair, and well-trimmed facial hair. He was last seen wearing a brown shirt, blue jeans, and a tan baseball cap.

The FBI said the suspect is considered armed and dangerous and if anyone observes it, they should not approach but should immediately contact law enforcement.
