Plane from NY blows 4 tires, veers off NJ runway

NEWARK, N.J. - Authorities say a United Express plane from western New York has blown four tires as it landed at Newark Liberty International Airport and veered off a runway.

Port Authority of New York and New Jersey spokesman Ron Marsico says Flight 4480 from Rochester was landing Sunday night at Newark Liberty International Airport when several rear tires blew. He tells the Star-Ledger that the plane veered onto a taxiway and didn't strike anything.

The ExpressJet plane operating as United Express was carrying eight passengers and five crew members. No one was hurt.

It wasn't immediately clear what caused the tires to blow.

ExpressJet issued a statement that said: "Express Jet Flight 4480, operating as United Express from Rochester, NY to Newark, experienced four blown tires shortly after landing. The crew safely brought the aircraft to a stop, and all eight passengers safely deplaned and were bused to the terminal."
