NEW YORK - A man was arrested after authorities said he hacked at his wife with a meat cleaver before firefighters rescued her on a New York City street.
Authorities say the attack unfolded Sunday on Canal Street, a main thoroughfare in New York's Chinatown.
Firefighters say they saw Ming Guang Huang dragging a screaming woman. Authorities say he pulled out the knife and slashed her as firefighters rushed over and subdued him.
Police say Huang was hospitalized for a psychiatric evaluation Monday. He was arrested on charges including attempted murder. It's not immediately clear whether the 28-year-old has a lawyer. A message left at a possible phone number for him wasn't immediately returned.
Police haven't released the woman's name. She's hospitalized, but her condition was not released.
