SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - A man and a woman who were trying to save a 6-year-old boy from an icy river were swept away in Sioux Falls, S.D. Thursday.
The two people are presumed drowned.
Sioux Falls Fire Chief Jim Sideras says emergency crews searching the Big Sioux River at Falls Park changed their focus from rescue to recovery early Friday.
Sideras says the woman was dragged away by the frothing water as she tried to save the boy Thursday evening. The man jumped in to help and also disappeared. The boy emerged a short time later.
Sideras says the woman is related to the boy, but is not his mother. Authorities have not released their identities.
ABC affiliate KSFY-TV reports the boy is with family and is fine.
