PHOENIX - Jurors in the Jodi Arias trial have found her eligible for death penalty after her murder conviction in the death of Travis Alexander, her boyfriend.
The jury got the case after a day of testimony Wednesday during which prosecutors tried to prove the murder was committed in an especially cruel and heinous manner.
Defense lawyer Kirk Nurmi maintained the state cannot prove its argument beyond a reasonable doubt.
The 32-year-old Arias admitted killing Travis Alexander in June 2008 at his Mesa, Ariz. home.
She first denied involvement. Two years after her arrest, she said it was self-defense. Prosecutors say she planned the killing in a jealous rage.
The jury convicted her of first-degree murder last Wednesday.
