Fire breaks out at Detroit refinery

Wintnesses report explosions

DETROIT - Black smoke was pouring from the Marathon Refinery in Detroit Saturday evening, WXYZ TV reported.

Firefighters are on the scene.

Marathon spokesman Shane Pochard told the Detroit Free Press that the fire was located in one of the refinery’s smaller tanks.

It was not known if anyone was injured or how the fire started, he said.

Witnesses told WXYZ that they heard explosions.  Other witnesses say they felt the explosions from two blocks away.
