Social media outrage led Greenville, S.C., officials to rescue a dog dangling on a leash from a second-story balcony.
A woman who saw the dog took a photo and shared it on Facebook, and it wasn't long before police were swamped with reports through Facebook, Twitter and phone calls, ABC News reports.
Tyler Smith, 23, was cited for violating the city's animal care ordinance.
When asked why Smith hung the dog out the window, Greenville Police Officer Johnathan Bragg told ABCNews.com, “Saturday it was raining really hard during that time period and we believe he was doing it to let it use the bathroom.”
Bragg said the dog belongs to Smith's parents, who were out of town at the time. The dog did not sustain any injuries.
