1 dead, 1 hurt in shooting at Winston-Salem State University in North Carolina

Police do not have a suspect in custody

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - School officials say a shooting at Winston-Salem State University has left one person dead and another injured.

Police do not have a suspect in custody.

The university says in a release that the shooting was reported around 1:20 a.m. Sunday in the area of Lot W near Wilson Hall and Gleason-Hairston Terrace. It says the campus was placed on lockdown about 1:30 a.m. and that was lifted around 4:50 a.m.

Campus police could not immediately be reached for comment.
