School's snow day video channels the 80s, reminds kids that their school is pretty cool

Best snow day announcement ever?

School officials at Durham Academy in North Carolina announced school Thursday would be canceled because of snow and ice. But their delivery was not via the radio or local media channels.

Michael Ulku-Steiner, Head of School and Lee Hark, Assistant Head of School, created a one-minute video clip spoof of Vanilla Ice's 1989 hit "Ice Ice Baby," and uploaded it to the web.

With relevant but hilarious lyric replacements such as "sleet falling down like a million missiles, bringing school delays and early dismissals" and "don't worry kids, the learning's not lost, we have Moodle, Evernote and Veracross," this duo went viral on YouTube within hours.

We give them both an A+ for staying in character -- neither of them crack even half a smile throughout the very goofy clip.

The video was posted Wednesday to cancel classes for Thursday. By Thursday evening, the video had been viewed more than one million times on YouTube.
